Abstract

A Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor processes images formed by an array of lenses to determine the local gradient of the wavefront using simple centroiding algorithms. We compare these with a method using the first Fourier coefficient of the image, and show how this can achieve extreme rates when implemented on an FPGA. On-sky results from a small adaptive optics system are given using this method.
