Abstract

Nano-scale HRI Liquid crystal (LC) coatings are evenly smeared along Long Period Gratings (LPGs). Experimental results show that the transition between cladding modes and overlay modes occurs when the refractive index of the LC layer is changed from 1.477 to 1.515 by increasing temperature. The sensitivity enhancement to HRI in the transition region is approximately 6 times the sensitivity outside the transition region.
