Continuous Laser Generation of Ultrasound in Materials using High Power Fiber Lasers

Abstract

High power cw lasers can be used to generate ultrasonic wavefronts in materials. Upon detection, these wavefronts provide a new and rapid method of determining strength and defects where contact ultrasound transducers cannot be used.
