Optical loss mechanisms in magnesium-doped lithium niobate crystals in the 300 to 2950 nm wavelength range

Abstract

Absorption measurements in 5 mol. % MgO-doped lithium niobate crystals (optical grade) are presented. Measurements reveal that optical losses in these crystals are mainly caused by H, Fe, Cu, Ni, Cr, and Mn impurities.
