Spectrum Efficiency and Cost Evaluation for G.654.E Fiber Based Optical Transmission Systems

Abstract

We evaluate the spectrum efficiency and the cost of a G.654.E fiber based optical transmission system. Simulation results show that, for a 400G optical transmission system, using G.654.E fiber with 0.17-dB/km attenuation coefficient and 130-μm2 large effective area (Aeff) can achieve the best tradeoff between spectrum efficiency and system cost.
