Abstract

Bio-chemical sensing applications are usually performed in water or buffer solution where a conventional long period fiber grating (LPFG) has low sensitivity. For this purpose, it is necessary to enhance the sensitivity of LPFGs within this refractive index (RI) region. Different optimization methodologies are here described and three experimental approaches that exhibit the evolution in term of sensitivity are reported.
