Abstract

Silicon photonic modulator devices are a key building block for integrated transmitter solutions for datacenter interconnects. We review optical design considerations relevant to modulator implementations in a SiGe photonic BiCMOS platform. Examples of recent transmitter demonstrators show a high application potential of this technology.
