Golay-Coded Incomplete Polarization Optical Time Domain Reflectometry for Enhanced Monitoring in Optical Telecommunication Networks

Abstract

We formulate and experimentally demonstrate that Golay coding enhances SNR in polarization OTDR (P-OTDR) without deteriorating the degree of polarization. At the same coding gain, temporal resolution of the proposed method outperforms simplex-coded P-OTDR.
