Abstract

This paper considers the future evolution of PON technology through 2025, based upon the requirements for such systems as well as the available technology to implement them. Three major system subtypes are envisioned: single channel (TDMA), multi-channel (TWDM), and WDM-PON. Each has its own advantages, challenges, and applications.
