Abstract

High resolution strainmeter and temperature sensor based on FBG resonators are proposed for earthquake precursory observation. The principle and design of a novel FBG resonator sensor head are introduced and analyzed. The field trail is carried out in Jinzhai seismic station in Lu’an City, Anhui Province, China. The system shows a strain resolution of 0.94 nε and a temperature resolution of 0.11 mK. The experiment results suggests that the proposed sensors have the ability to record the tidal signal, distant earthquake and ambient temperature fluctuation simultaneously with high signal-noise ratio (SNR).
