Abstract

Two methods have been proposed to equally couple the optical power of a single mode fiber (SMF) into the two cores of an embedded-dual-core hollow optical fiber (EDCHOF). The loss of two splicing methods and the transmission spectrum in the two cores of the EDCHOF was measured experimentally. The loss produced by the method of splitting the light through tapering EDCHOF, which have a poor mechanical strength, is only ~2 dB; As a comparison, another method of splicing, collapsing air hole and tapering has high mechanical strength and the loss of ~7 dB.
