Wide Range and High Resolution True Time Delay Unit for Phased Array Antenna

Abstract

An optical true time delay (OTTD) unit based on uniform fiber Bragg gratings (UFBGs), photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and wavelength converter (WC) array is proposed for the phased array antennas (PAAs) beamforming system. The simulations shows that the PAAs system based on the proposed OTTD unit can provide the scanning range from -69.7º to +69.7º and resolution of 1º with greatly reduced number and length of the time delay lines.
