Abstract
A reflection-type nonmechanical large-angle beam-steering device is presented which is composed of a reflective blazed grating and liquid crystal. The design scheme can realize the beam steering by changing the effective refractive index of the liquid crystal. The deflection characteristic is analyzed and simulated theoretically. The results show that a deflector with a large deflection angle of 24.2° and a low applied voltage of 5V can be obtained by selecting appropriate parameters of the grating and incident angle. The analysis will be valuable for the accurate design and fabrication of this kind of reflective beam deflector based on liquid crystal.
