Scalable 2×2 Multimode Switch for Mode-Multiplexed Silicon Photonics Interconnects

Abstract

A silicon scalable multimode switch (SMS) is demonstrated using MMI couplers and Ti/W thermo-optic phase-shifters. The 2×2 switch exhibits -5.0 dB insertion loss, -19.5 dB crosstalk, and 21 dB switching extinction ratio at 1565 nm.
