Multimode and Multi-core Fiber Amplifiers for Space-division Multiplexed Communications Systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Multimode and multi-core fiber amplifiers must exhibit low mode dependent gain, and produce large output powers per mode (20-dBm) with low noise figures. To be cost competitive, they must have less complexity than an array of single-mode fiber amplifiers. We will discuss several amplifier designs to improve these metrics.
