Mode Conversion with Vertical Polymer-Waveguide Directional Coupler

Abstract

We design vertical directional couplers for conversion between the fundamental mode and various high-order modes. An experimental LP01-LP21a mode converter fabricated with polymer waveguides shows a maximum coupling efficiency of 98.7% at 1550 nm.
