Abstract

We conducted a numerical investigation on the minimum modulation depth of a saturable absorber, which is essentially needed for the generation of stable optical pulses from a passively mode-locked fiber laser cavity. From the results it is shown that the net cavity dispersion and Kerr nonlinearity significantly influence the minimum required level of saturable absorption modulation depth.
