Azo dye doped liquid crystals: Physics and applications

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

This paper presents the physics and applications of azo dye-doped liquid crystals (LCs). The azo dye molecules doped in a LC cell undergo photo-refractive, and trans–cis isomerization effects after they are excited by suitable light. These effects induce the change of LC parameters, and/or the alignment, and allow us to fabricate various LC devices. Details are reported.
