Local heating of individual droplets using photothermal effects of gold nanorods

Abstract

We present an efficient method to locally heat individual microfluidic droplets using photothermal effects of gold nanorods. A nanoliter droplet was heated to over 80 oC under illumination of a 13.6 mW heating laser.
