Extending 40G DPSK Reach using Co-Propagating Raman and EDFA Booster Amplifier

Abstract

Two transmit amplifier approaches to extending 40G DPSK transmission reach are evaluated. Simulation and experimental results are presented for co-propagating Raman and EDFA high-launch-power amplifiers. The results show significant improvement in the supportable span loss.
