40 Gbit/s, 16-QAM, Transmission Utilizing Electronic Sub-Carrier Technique and Direct Detection Reception

Abstract

Electronically generated 16-QAM at 40 Gbit/s was transmitted by means of sub-carrier modulation (SCM) using intensity modulation and direct detection. Transmission over 80 km standard single-mode fiber and electronic dispersion compensation was demonstrated.
