Rapid evaluation of bacterial viability using the optrode – a near real time portable fluorimeter

Abstract

We describe a method for identifying live vs. dead bacteria that takes advantage of an inexpensive and portable fibre based fluorimeter, the optrode, which can measure fluorescence intensity in bacterial solutions in any working environment.
