New strategies for mid-IR fiber-based light generation

Abstract

We present two innovative approaches for efficient light generation in the 2–6 µm band based on nonlinear interaction in mid-infrared transmitting optical fibers. In the first approach, stimulated Raman scattering in chalcogenide glass fibers is used to produce a continuous emission in the 3–4 µm band. In the second approach, picosecond pulses at 2.75 µm from an OPG source are amplified in an erbium-doped fluoride glass fiber and launched in a fluoroindate fiber to generate a supercontinuum up to 5.4 µm.
